With a nice wooded forest as a panorama and more trees on the course, this par 72 is fun to play but it also offers some challenging holes, with plenty of doglegs, beautiful plantings, and a lot of water hazards, especially on the back 9.
The first four holes are not too difficult : after the dogleg par-5 1st, with a small pond right in front of the tee (with nice yellow flowers on the right) and a tree-lined fairway bending to the right near the green, I like the scenic par-3 3rd, with more flowers around the tee box and near a puzzle-like bunker in front of the green.
If the dogleg par-4 4th hole is nice too, with a fairway bending to the left, then to the right, which makes you hit an approach shot over the trees to reach the hidden green, the dogleg par-4 5th hole is even nicer, with a nice stone house on the right of the tee area (with restrooms !), a big bunker in the right corner and a small meandering lake on the left ending in front, and to the left, of the green.
Then, after the par-3 6th hole, with a tee shot over a wide lake with nice bushes around and a panoramic view of the forest, you will reach the left dogleg par-4 7th, with a tee shot over part of the elongated lake bending to the left and ending near the green, before heading for the nice left dogleg par-5 9th hole, with a tee shot over part of the lake and where you can cut the corner on your second shot to try to reach the green, where six deep bunkers in front (of both sides) are awaiting your errant shots with "open arms" !
After the short (about 325 yards) dogleg par-4 10th hole, with its undulated fairway and where, this time, you cannot reach the downhill green because of high trees in the left corner, you will face plenty of water holes !
The par-4 11th hole has a lake zigzagging on the right and an approach shot over part of it to reach the green, whereas the par-3 12th has its green very close to the lake bending to the right.
But my favorite holes are the gorgeous par-5 13th, with a meandering lake in the middle, a tee shot over the water and a long approach shot again over the water to reach the green, and the scenic par-3 14th hole, again with that nice stone house on the right, and a shot over the lake running across in front of the tee box, with a couple of bunkers, small rocks and bushes on the sides of the green, to the left of the lake.
Water comes into play on two more holes : the right dogleg par-4 15th, with the lake on the left side and plenty of trees in the corner and a slightly-elevated green, and the pretty right dogleg par-4 18th hole, with a tee shot across a lake and with another lake on the left side of the fairway, behind the green.
With two thirds of the holes having water to deal with, and some nice views (despite the course being a little bit dark – more like older TW versions), PineTop is a good course to test your patience as you will have to think twice before hitting your shots, thanks to the nice designing work done by FoxintheWoods.

I know FoxintheWoods from years playing together in the same club. As he started designing I humbly (lol) offered any advice he might need to help him in learning the ins and outs of the course architect. I don't recall him ever asking for my help - lol. But I will tell you this - this latest course by Steve proves he should be the one teaching me! Take some time and look - actually look - at this course. You will see a great technical layout of 18 holes of golf, but you will also see (in this and every course he makes) attention to detail that is unsurpassed. The tree selections alone are something I could never hope to equal. But look at all the plantings and you will see what looks like could be actual photos of a real course. Absolutely stunning! Everything on one of his courses is there because it has a purpose. This, in my book, makes him one of the top designers out there right now! The only down side to the designs of FoxintheWoods is that he makes far too few courses! Thanks, Steve, for this course. It is simply terrific!

First of all really good looking course, I wish I had this course in my area! Nice ground work, The rolling fairways and green shaping, They had nice slope not to trying. Also liked bunkers and tree placement. Sorry all I can give is A 5.
Thanks, Rick

Gorgeous course! Frankly, I like the deep green lush look, kind of has an Augusta feel to it. A keeper for sure, thanks Fox.

I agree with the comments here except I found it all to Green and Dark played it on aftrernoon and partly cloudy and it was so dark shading, so much darker green fairways and trees and greens all much the same shade.
