With its beautiful Sedona mountain panorama (see note at the end), this par 73 looks nice but with its wide fairways and greens, it is not too difficult even if the front 9 is more “challenging” with six left dogleg holes, compared to... none on the way back !
Case in point : the first two holes are... left doglegs, with my “favorite” being the par-4 2nd, with a tee shot landing short of an elongated lake (ending in front and not too far from the green), over which you will need to hit your approach to reach the green.
The par-5 4th hole is another left dogleg, a little bit tricky, with a tee shot flying above a few trees and landing, depending on your choice of club, either in front of a big pond across the fairway (midway), or beyond it, leaving you with a long second shot toward the green.
Then, after the dogleg par-4 5th hole, bending sharply to the left, with a tee shot over a few trees and another shot over more trees to get to the green (surrounded by small bunkers), you will face the challenging par-3 6th hole, along a lake (on the right) and with trees on its edge, hiding its wide green.
Believe it or not, you will finish the front 9 with a... right dogleg, the par-4 9th hole, with an elongated lake, midway (on the left), sparsely-planted trees on both sides of the fairway, and another small lake to watch for behind the green.
As previously mentioned, the back 9 is a little bit lackluster, with plenty of straight holes (par-4 10th, 11th, 14th, 15th), even if a few lakes and/or ponds surround some of the fairways and greens, such as on the par-3 12th hole, with a big pond, surrounding the green behind, halfway, and on the right dogleg par-5 13th, with a tiny pond behind the wide green, reachable on your second shot.
The short right dogleg par-5 17th, along a lake (ending past the green), is another hole where you should have an eagle opportunity after hitting your tee shot over trees (and bunkers behind), and your approach over a small pond in front of the wide green, before finishing with the right dogleg par-4 18th, with a fairway hugging a lake (on the right) and a wide green, with more water behind.
Overall, despite a couple of small trees and/or branches not too far in front of a couple of tee boxes (par-5 8th, par-3 16th holes), this Iron Eagle Golf Resort is not the most difficult course you will ever play but it plays well, thanks to Kabitzer42Play's nice designing job.
