If you expect to see a lot of high-rise buildings around this Star City course, you will be in for a big surprise !
Why ? Simply because the first thing that you will notice, as you get ready to tee off, are the gorgeous mountains staring at you on the par-4 opening hole, quite challenging with water splitting the fairway across, midway (and finishing its course in front of the green, to the right), making your tee shot a little bit tricky.
The par-3 2nd is another scenic hole, with panoramic views of villas, tennis courts and the Star City hotel as you reach the green, just like the pretty left dogleg par-4 4th, with its downhill tee shot landing onto a narrow fairway, next to a wide lake on the left, and its uphill approach toward the undulating green.
I also like the last three holes, starting with the right dogleg par-4 7th, with its fairway set between the river (on the left) and a rocky plateau (on the right) and its elevated green, and followed by the picturesque left dogleg par-4 8th, with a downhill tee shot landing onto a narrow fairway (with a lake partially hidden by trees on the left) and an uphill approach to the green, and the nice par-3 9th hole, with an elongated bunker across in front of the green, and another pretty view of the Star City hotel and its surroundings.
Speaking of pretty views, the left dogleg par-5 10th hole is worth mentioning too, with a lake on the left side of the green (and its beautiful star-shaped flowerbed not too far from the hotel), and so is the risky right dogleg par-4 11th, with its narrow fairway next to a wide lake (on the right) and tough approach over the narrowest part of it to reach the small green.
Another beautiful hole is the par-3 13th, where your tee shot will have to fly over a big elongated pond across the fairway and in front of a rocky plateau to reach the green (set on top), unlike the right dogleg par-5 14th, where you will need to hit a blind tee shot downward a narrow fairway, and a long approach, slightly uphill toward the green, with a small lake on the right to watch for...
Last, but not least, you will finish your round with the gorgeous left dogleg par-4 18th hole, and its spectacular view of that star-shaped flowerbed in front of the green, surrounded halfway by water (with that big hotel behind).
Overall, with its beautiful plantings (colorful flowers and lots of reeds in and around the lakes), narrow and (often) undulating fairways, subtle elevation changes and its well-placed water hazards, this par 72 is a feast for the eyes and, if you can manage to score well on the par-5 holes, you should feel like the (lone) star of this Star City course, well-designed by Micko... even if you are not in Texas !
