I started making Punaluu Bay about a decade ago, but when I was about 60 or 70% done, I lost everything due to computer failure. I was recently cleaning out some old harddrives to toss them and I came across some old PB working files including a partial structure library. So, I thought I'd give it another go. I had to rebuild it from scratch, with some holes remaining pretty similar to the original while others are brand new.

I'm pretty close to the finish line, so fingers crossed there are no gremlins on the horizon.

The par 3's are quite a bit of fun, but the 14th was the 'throw in' in this design... an afterthought. It was really just supposed to be a filler hole, but after sculpting it and adding structures and plants, it's far and away my favourite hole on the course. The view from the tee in particular:

Isn't it funny how the hole you give no consideration toward turns out to be a complete gem? I've had this happen a ton of time and it's usually by complete luck. Looks fantastic!

Here's a few comparison's of #3 from screenshots of the earlier version compared to the soon to be released redo. The original design went down to the green, while the new version offers an uphill shot.

The uphill shot combined with the tournament structures creates a much more dramatic feeling to the approach. Also, I changed the colour pallette, from the orange sand bunkers to the more traditional white, and a duller, darker brown rock from reddy brown.

I''ll also be including a texmod file to modify several flowering shrubs to more tropical colours. Also, while the ''stock'' hole signs each have a somewhat humorous quote on them, the modified signs and structures are all redone for the fictional Punaluu Bay Championships, further adding to the tournament feel.

The modified tournament structures (CGX US championship structures) includes a Golf Channel logo for the TV Stand

Came across an odd thing while testing. On the sixth hole there's a bunch of leaf litter around the tee area. It's as if a gust of wind swept through and knocked a bunch of leaves off, but only in this one spot. Literally on the whole course this is the only spot. It's like the course life system used all its falling leaf resources on this one spot...

Anyone see this before?

Never have seen that. What cls are you using?

I don't recall where I got it originally. I may have just taken one of the stock ones, but I've hacked away at it. I took out the blimp, flies/insects, and all the birds except seagulls. Also got rid of the random lost golf balls.

There's some similarities here to a course that I am making. I promise I'm not copying off you! Plus I don't have the ability to make things look this nice.

I feel the leaf thing has to be a problem with the CLS.

I managed to get the leaves to fall off the trees, but only the ones behind the tees... I'm totally done fighting with the cls.

My last little tweak is to add some hawaiian golf shirts to some in the crowd. (note: you'll have to use texmod to get it)

Also be sure to use the supplied texmod file to take full advantage of the nice water texture, which looks best at the low shader level.

Course should be available tomorrow.
