I have no idea what the problem with CGX is, but it could be out of the realm's of JB to fix, in other words, if Jim isn't availalble, as he wasn't last year for a amount of time, then what ever has caused the site to drop off the radar may not be fixed till he is, the only other IP specialist I know of is Jeff Jarvis.
I do know from my last visit to the admin CP, that the site was due to a software update.
I mailed Jim but so far have heard nothing from him, so hopefully it is just a work thing, as a team leader, in some very high security stuff, Jim can be away from the site for weeks or months.
I know JB has frequented this site in the past, and if I do not hear from Jim soon, I will try to contact him.
I think we all remember the last time this happened, JB copped a lot of flak for keeping quiet, truth is he most likely knew nothing then, as he knows now.
To all members who cannot log into the site all I can say is be patient and if I hear anything I will update it here.

Bruce, thanks for keeping us updated on the CGX site as I do remember last year it went down for almost 2 weeks before coming back up. Hopefully it will come back soon as I'm getting withdrawls. Thank god for Golf4Fun to help out.

Yeah I agree it's now been at least 4 days and nada. Not a peep not a sound. This is how rumors get started when there is no communication. People are left to speculate on their own on whats happening. If other time commiments were needed by whom ever and no one to run things then just come out and say we are shutting down for a week or two weeks and then members know whats what. Heck everyone needs a holiday and no one is getting paid to run things so can't get upset with some one needing some time off but just come out and say so. Not saying that is the reason for being shut down. Again there is the speculation creeping in. If its a site or server issues again let be known that things are being worked on and will return to normal asap. End of story and of speculation or at the very very least keep it at an absolute minimum.

I quite agree with everything you say Sir P. In this day and age if the Main Person running a Site is unavailable then surely he has a deputy ready to stand in in case things go wrong. Its a shame that no one has posted anything to let the Members know what is happening even though there are Senior Members of the Site who help out on this one as well.
Hopefully all is well and CGX will return soon. |

- just a little quirk of mine
to members on facebook who would like an email update - perhaps they have the technical knowledge to explain how an email can be sent to members when the site is down and there is no access to site email, member email lists, etc??

Thanks Bruce R and jbcalg, maybe people have to be a bit more patient, it is hard for the CGX administrators to post info when they don t know yet what is going on.

A simple post here saying what you said above would alleviate much of the FB requests as that is the only place peole go as there is no other way to communicate.

Sorry that you are taking this as an attack, it isn''t. As I said above, given that you are essentially the a face/name people associate with the running of CGX, and that fact that you show up here and ignore a thread wondering why CGX has gone AWOL again seems a tad odd. A simple, "Hey peeps, I''m like you and have no clue" would be a huge step towards stopping people from getting uppity. If i was involved in the running of a site, I''d pop in to a thread like this when i saw it just to say Hi. just me I guess.
As for being a former member, yup and the reason I''m here as I was trying to get on the site to rejoin post surgery...
Again, sorry you feel like you were being attacked, I just assumed incorrectly you were perhaps part of the membership as well as the dude behind many of the levers and knobs at CGX?

Everyone Let us just hope Jim who has given so much to the game in all aspects is safe and well, not just for the sake of the site, that would pale into insignifigants if something had happened to him, believe it or not he may well have either been locked away, working on a Government project or something untoward has happened to him, for him not to have made contact with JB for over a week, considering he and Jim kept fairly close contact, with JB basically running the site while Jim was absent.
I pray Jim is OK, having known him thanks to the game for at least a decade.
I to Thank CD and all the staff for allowing us to have an avenue to at least give the CGX members somewere to get some information on why this has happened even if that information still offers no clues yet as to the site''s future. |

It a pity that it again comes to a stage where people are stating comments as above before someone speaks up that CGX is unavailable for technical issues unknown to them. It is apparent to most that whoever owns (or represents the site) fails to make a simple statement that there are problems unknown to them fails to communicate, leads to rumours and suggestions we have read. Members of CGX who have paid a hard earned fee and/or donated to the site deserve better than what they are currently receiving. It is about time those who own/take responsibility for the site learn this and at least post a statement on CDL that a problem exists.

I agree it is frustrating for the members of CGX to be left guessing again whats happening. That said we still have to remember that the site is run by volunteers,so its not realistic to think they" owe us anything" sure we pay memberships but realistically it is a pittence of what it actually would cost if we had to pay some one to run it full time.
That said I think if the site does get running again it should be looked at as far as an emergency plan put in place in case something like this was to occur again. Not saying that anyone but Jim could fix the problem but at least a means of getting an announcement out to the community even if it is to say sorry no idea what's going on but will update as soon as possible and keep checking back for any updates. That way people know where to go to check for information instead of just left hanging.
Hopefully things will get back to normal asap and as Bruce mentioned Jim is all right and will have it sorted out or at least a status upedate soon.
