Now I have never played a real round of golf in my entire life. My only experience comes from watching it on tv and playing and designing courses for the various TW games.
Still, I know that this fantasy course makes no pretense at being realistic.
That does not have to be a problem. I have designed many a course myself that would be impossible to recreate in real life. To mixed response, I might add.
Still, "Bluebell" crosses a few lines too many, in my humble opinion.
The designer seems to be unaware that elevations can be used for more than dramatic walls and surreal pits right in the middle of a pond. Although that makes for a challenging experience - on one of the holes I discovered the green in a pit that made it impossible to obtain a decent camera view, which made putting a rather random affair - it is a challenge that is often more annoying than exhilarating.
The course seems to consist mainly of straight lines. Artistically speaking, the designer seems like a Mondrian in the world of Rubensian curves that is the actual golf experience.
I think I can see what he tried to do, but as far as I'm concerned he hasn't succeeded with this course because the overall design is really rather too simplistic.
A surrealistic course should be like a dream. This one is more like a nightmare.
Some points for effort, few for the actual result.
I don't know if this designer has studied any of the excellent tutorials that are available on this site yet. I he hasn't, maybe he should.
