Hello MyHairIzzonFire, yes best settings to get reflecting water is to set shader set to Low or Medium.
There is not really a better solution for that.

The "Mecca" of golf ! Every year, this course is the most downloaded and it has a lot to do with its fame, design and... famous azaleas.
No matter what version you play (Ken McHale or CGX), you are in for a treat. If you survive the front 9, the Amen Corner (11th, 12th and 13th holes) will test your concentration and stress levels and if this is not enough, the par-5 15th will make you sweat until you see your shot fly over the water and (hopefully) land on the green.
Ken McHale has done an incredible job with this course, paying attention to every detail (plantings, elevation, flowers) and deserves all the compliments you can read below.

Played this course for first time - and my thoughts? I just play normal with calm or breezy conditions (too lazy to get real involved) and this course has been planned out very well and plays perfect imo. Love the challenge on greens - even in conditions that I play. Thank you Ken for uploading for the rest of us to enjoy. 5 Stars.

When you are on Win7, Win8 or Vista then you will have to run TWCaddie08 as administrator.
Also be sure to use the correct version of TWCaddie08: 32bit or 64bit version.

this course does not install properly for use in tw 2008. there should be explicit instructions on how to fix this since all the rest of the courses install correctly

I cannot find any place on this web site to post a problem so I'll try here. I used TW Caddie 08 to install Augusta National into my TW PGA Tour 08 Courses folder using a subfolder named AUG. Caddie 08 reports the install was successful but I cannot find the course anywhere in the game to play on it. Is there something else I am supposed to do too make it visible in game play? I first installed each file manually - removed all that when it didn't work and then installed the two zip files - all using Caddie 08 btw. I have TW PGA Tour 12 which has the Augusta course in it but that version of "TruSwing" sucks.

New to game, and this is my first course comment. Only right Augusta is that first course I comment on, and this course took me to school on the greens. Wouldn't expect anything least at Augusta, and this should be a fun week for all those who love Augusta as much as I do. Looking forward to playing this while watching the Master's on TV this week................. :)

This is a great course. I haven't experienced any difficulties yet but when running the "Analyse Installed Files...." utility within TW Caddie 08, I came back with the following messaging below. I don't know if it's worth making changes and re-uploading the course.

This is the first course I've downloaded for TW2K8 so far and it's awesome! I had some issues with flickering when I first installed it, but I think that may be more of an issue with the drivers for my Graphics card.

OK, now onto an actual review of the course... First off, this has been my FAVORITE course for download for the last few years. EA, if youre smart, you hire Ken McHale as a consultant to get this guy back interested in designing courses. EA, you could make even more $ by having an add on course disk that used to exist several years ago. Just have Ken work his magic, and youd be set...

I only wish Ken would find it in his heart to update Augusta... The course has about 3 colors in it, when it used to show the Pink Azaleas and White Dogwoods. Now, all I see is some burgundy colored azaleas? The Par 3 course (different designer) seems to re-introduce more of the other colored flowers. The course does also play slower than in years past, but it plays great now on v dry (where in years past, v dry was ridiculous).

So once again, well done Ken McHale. Im not sure why you have less time to perfect this masterpiece, but Im sure you have reasons and we will all patiently wait until your time opens up (or EA opens their checkbook :-)

Awesome post by Jeff Jarvis. That solved my problem that I was getting with the course not showing up (installed via course caddie).

I misunerstood the post at first and was trying to remove spaces following the last 2008 part (at the end). To make this pretty clear for everyone, you need to remove the space by the first 2008 part of the path. I will add an asterisk to point this out for everyone:

C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08\Courses\Augusta 2008*\Augusta 2008.tcr

* is there the extra space is and needs to be deleted.

Continue to delete that space on the other 4 lines of the course caddie property paths.

Am inspired once again to attempt to load this course (just watched the 2008 3rd round). As I remember the same thing happened last year. When I originally installed it a year ago it didnt work (and I cant remember the details, but some of the other people with problems sound familiar). Thought I should try and reinstall it (and redownload it), but when I use CLSetup (I tried to figure out the new caddy program, got frustrated, and defaulted to CLSetup) it says the course already exists. I tried to uninstall it using the utility, but it doesnt recognize it as being on there. I have loaded a dozen courses, and this is the only one I have had any trouble with (of all courses to have trouble with!). Considering trying a previous iteration of TW just so I can play Augusta, but cant bring myself to do it (had it for 2003 on a previous computer, and it worked). Anyhow, thought Id let you know, just in case you have some trick you can recommend.

For those who install this course using the TW Caddie 08, please do the following after installing:

1) Open TW Caddie 08 and find Augusta 2008 under Installed Courses.
2) Click one time to highlight the name of the course and click on the Properties button.
3) When Course Properties shows up, look down at the 5 lines under Course File Locations. You should see something that looks like this on the first line:

C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08\Courses\Augusta 2008 \Augusta 2008 .tcr

4) You need to removed the extra spaces at the end of 2008 on each of the 5 lines. When you do this for the first line, it will look like this:

C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08\Courses\Augusta 2008\Augusta 2008.tcr

This will solve the problem of the course not properly showing up when you try to play the course.

I have installed the myZip but when I go to load it in game there is no text file, splash screen, and when I click tee-off the game cant find the .tcr

Can anyone help? I installed and ran another course with no problem. Is it something to do with the library change? Im desperate to play this and if I can get it working will make a donation to the site for providing the tools to do so so answers hugely appreciated! Thanks

Very close to perfection! IMHO, a nice step up from 2007. The look and feel are beautiful. Just a couple of minor changes and I dont know what else would be left to be done. The swale front and left of the 3rd green should probably be deeper and maybe the 5th green could be worked on a bit adding especially the big dip in the front. Add in the crowd and this would be a dream come true for all PC golfers. Thanks, Ken!

I have played both the 07 & 08 versions over and over (in tw08) trying to decide which is the better version. In my opinion the 07 version is far better and is plays excellent in tw08.
For me their is something lacking in the 08 version, the planting and trees just do not seem right, the 07 version is closer to the real course which adds to the overall ambiance that makes Augusta what it is.

I am getting an error message in game. I have a blank course Icon and when I click on it, it says missing course text file and make sure course cd is in the drive. I also have this same message with the Gardenia course. I have approximately 70 other courses and do not have issues except for these 2 courses. Thank You

Well my 2 cents are this, on this course you need to speed up the greens, and for a right-handed player you need to hit a draw. This is the most downloaded course every year, and gets the most public attention. Some general notes about Augusta: Hole 9 the 1st 10 feet are unplayable, everything will roll off, #10 drops 100 feet tee to green, that is insane for this video game, it is almost impossible to create that power slot on 10 were you get another 50 yards of roll. No one has every gotten the look of this hole correct. Greens like hole #3 is titled so much, that the avg. Joe can 4 putt from 3 feet. To build a perfect simulation of the 16th green is not possible, that slope is 2 insane. Holes 10,11,12 and 13 are the single hardest holes to create for this game. What about the swirling winds on #12, it that possible to create? from studding the great courses of the world, I found that, once you get to the green area, is were the players skill level is tested. There are specific windows were you need to hit the ball, if you miss, you will not get up and down. Augusta National is one of these courses it is risk and reward, smarts, course mgmt, than you need the skill of a surgeon on the putting surfaces. Players who win at Augusta have also won or done very well at St. Andrew’s. Both courses demand a similar set of skills. I played Ken’s course back in 03, and what amazed me was the advanced level of game play for a video game, things have changed in the last 5 seasons, but the concepts have not.

What is seen on TV is exactly that what you see. You have no idea how hard a putt was struck or anything. I have rarely ever seen a rool back or roll off of anybody playing on TV I have however watched and listened to the pros and their caddies practicing and taking notes as they play this course. Also we forget about the fact that this is a private country club. Members and guests play this course 6 months out of the year. If this course played like what we see on tv It would be a joke for even a scratch golfer to play. I do not have any desire to play what I see on tv. If I did, I would get a console so I could see it on my tv as well. I want the opportunity to play a golf sim and the opportunity to play the courses as close to a simulation as possible

I would rather play a slightly inaccurate version of Augusta than not play Augusta at all. This version, in my opinion, plays very much like what I see on TV. When I break par in the wind here, I feel like Ive beat the game. My versions of real courses are not exact copies, nobodys are, but we get to play them when we are done, and we get to imagine we are walking the same fairways as Tiger, Jones, Hogan and all the rest. Isnt that what this is all about? Id rather that walk wasnt spoiled by pointing out flaws.

This is a very good rendition in my opinion, best one yet. nice job Ken.

I wholeheartedly agree with what ZB says. Although I design only fantasy courses, I have encountered the same problem on my own designs. You want them to be challenging without being too frustrating. One hole of the kind that ZB desribes here is maybe tolerable, but if there are too many the course is just no fun anymore. The trick he mentions (flattening an area of a couple of feet around the pin) has worked for me, I believe (players are the real judges of that of course.) Nevertheless I have adopted a slightly more conservative design strategy for my last few courses, to see how that would go down. I have had discouragingly few responses so far, lol.
In cyber golf there si a fine line between difficult and just plain ridiculous _ a line that I have crossed many times in the past myself, I might add )

Mmmm a lot has been said about this particular version of Augusta. With so much mixed comment on this and other sites, wouldnt it suggest to the balanced mind that in actual fact, this rendition is not as squeaky perfect as some might suggest, in fear of upsetting someone?

Seemms to me where theres smoke etc. So, I downloaded it and tried it myself and will now provide my pennyworth and mistake me not, I am not afraid of speaking my mind, as a fellow designer, I expect people to be honest. I hate and ignore those comments which are just wishywashy lovegiving b*****ks! Give a designer real feedback is far more valuable IMHO. (Although, it should be done in an intelligent manner and without being personal) Say what impressed you the most, complimented with what impressed you the least. This results in a fair summation of a piece of work.

I play Expert and very dry and I also design. To design and recreate a REAL LIFE course into a computer simulation game, is difficult and takes skill and patience, plus 100s of tests along the journy of creation. This is my own opinion, learned from experience. To get a real Life-like rendition (as far as possible within a computer game) one must have real knowledge of the subject matter and this does not mean watching a few shots on TV.

This means walking the course and comprehensive research, wherever possible. There also has to be a balance. A licence if you like, where we accept and acknowledge, that we are creating a game and that no simulation (unless hundreds of thousands of bucks, are invested in the technology) will ever, result in life realism. We should also be making a course that is playable for all skills and conditions.

My thoughts about Augusta are not for the zombies out there who just love everything...this feedback is for Ken, so that he can take what he considers to be useful to him alone, into his next design.

In my own preferred mode of play, I found most of the greens unenjoyable. Frustrating would be closer to the truth and not in a fun way. The slope on most greens is inaccurate compared to the real course, plus there has been no quarter given to those who play expert and very dry...I realise fully, that there will be some amongst you, who play the same and disagree, but this is myu own experience and I have benchamrked the performance against my weekly average taken over 12 months playing the PGAX tour, on all sorts of courses.

It is frustrating for anyone, who putts up to a hole, playing for lag/weight, only to see the ball reach to within a few inches of the cup and then roll back to a point beyond where you started. This is where licence comes into it. A simple solution, would be to flatten a 10 foot area around each pin, where a green contains severe slope.

There does seem to be inaccuracies in this rendition, compared with the real course too, however, I am not as qualified as some, who will have actuially walked the course/attended several events there, so I am simply going on what I have read and seen through various media.

All in all, I personally found this version to be below par, compared to previous versions by Ken.

Finally, my thoughts are that if we, the community, are stifled from providing honest feedback, a designer...new or experienced, will never improve. Although there will be many who enjoy this version (and disagree with everything I have written) I am sadly, not going to be one of them.

I did not once indicate that the course was poorly created. Kens work on the course as always is top notch, just inaccurate elevations. I would have to say in my opinion that I would prefer realistic elevations and layout. With a bit of good work on the greens, I can make a very dry green with less than 24 of elevation change play like an ice rink on expert conditions

Its funny that I get the very same complaint about my fantasu course. lol. Like Rob said, if your create greens that are truly realistic (i.e. with a maximum slope of 36), they would be ridiculously easy in cyber golf. What do you want, a course that challenges your cyber golf skills, or a realistic reproduction thjats basically just for walking around s far as playing goes.

Fair comments Id say but Augusta is notoriously difficult on the greens (traditionally fast slopes)bear in mind that the definition of a real course is that the course can be played in real life and not neccessarily an exact copy of that course, Ken has again produced another fine example of Augusta which many members of the community will get great pleasure from.

First off, I never insultated anyone. I did not say the course was not well done or anything. I stated it was not accurate. That is a FACT. I have been there and stood next to each of those greens and the elevations are not correct. This course is listed as real not fantasy and it is not a real representation of what it really is. That is all.

Sounds just about right if you watch the Masters you will hear that same thing over and over from the pros. As a Matter of fact Im sure they would say Number 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 are unplayable as well on very dry.

Played the front nine and then uninstalled. Green elevations where too severe/unrealistic compared to the actual course. Number one is virtually unplayable on very dry and elevated to over 7 feet. The actual green is approx 36 at most front to back. Too bad too, as Augusta is one of the loftiest shrines of golf.

Hi ....Ken uploaded new library with this comments:

Architect Comments: Augusta 2008 Ver 2 library fixes the drop problem when hitting into the water and makes very dry conditions more forgiving on the greens. The GUID is the same as the original Augusta 2008 library so you need to remove that library and replace it with Augusta 2008 Ver 2.Ken

I keep getting a message that says I need more librarys to install than what is shown to be needd for the course...

cannot get the course to install. Im not sure what Im missing. Its telling the it needs a text file of some sort and I dont see a splash screen. I sure wish I could play it.

Personally, I think it is nearly perfect on vdry if you compare it to what you see on TV.

Another spot on rendition sir. Best one to date IMO.

Now, about those other major venues...

Ken, a beautiful course, thanks for this one, it looks and plays great. You
do great work with the tools we have and its hard to get a course like this
done. I hope to see more from you this year.

great course. only thing is its kinna unfair on vdry. other then that its a great course as always. seems kinna early for you to release it. you feeling ok my friend, lol :) jkidding.
